The Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, referred to as the COID Act, was promulgated in South Africa to make provision for the compensation for disablement caused by occupational injuries or diseases sustained or contracted by employees in the course of their employment, or for death resulting from such injuries or diseases; and to provide for matters connected herewith.
The COID Act stipulates that all South African legal persons (individuals and entities e.g. companies) who employ one or more employee/s in the course of their business / association / organisation / trust and / or farming activities are subjected to the provisions set out by the act.

Before you can get a Letter of Good Standing from the Compensation Fund, you need to be ‘COID Registered’. This basically means that the Compensation Fund lists you on their database as a South African Company which has a work environment that qualifies for employees to work in.

Letter of Good standing @ R790
If an employer is registered with the Compensation Fund as per section 80 of the COID Act, he / she can apply for a Letter of Good Standing from the Compensation Fund. This letter states that there is no outstanding claims / debt on his / her Compensation Fund record.

To apply for most contracts and tenders, your Company will have to submit a Letter of Good Standing which they received from the Compensation Fund. This proves that there is no outstanding debt claims from the Compensation Fund / or Employees.

• You should have an existing Letter of Good Standing which has expired. (need a new one? We can assist)
• The annual fees payable at the Compensation Fund needs to be up to date & successfully submitted.*
* We will be unable to continue with the Letter of Good standing if your fees at the Compensation Fund are in arrears. However, we will send you the necessary information needed to settle the account. It is important to take note that any outstanding fees will be charged by the Compensation Fund, this fees are in addition to our fees and the services we offer.
Submission of your Return of Earnings
This section is only relevant to existing companies undergoing belated COID registration. Employers who are registered at the Compensation Fund are requested to submit and pay their annual fees. The Compensation Fund will not grant a Company a Letter of Good standing if the submission and payment of annual fees are not adhered to. This process could be extremely complicated and time consuming, we therefore advise Clients to acquire this service from us. Renewals
It is a requirement that ANY Company, who is in possession of a Letter of Good standing from the Compensation Fund, must renew it annually before 30 April. It is important to note that the date on which you applied for your first letter is unrelated to 30 April. For example, if you have requested a letter in March, you have to renew it again before the end of April every year.
